Robots replace workers in Britain’s cauliflower fields

Our fields could soon be full of robots, designed specifically to pick cauliflowers, lettuces and cabbages.

British scientists have set to work inventing a new system to allow robots to harvest the tricky leafy vegetables after a mass exodus of the migrant workers who usually harvest the crops.

The current computer market is boring. PCs and Macs have near-identical hardware and professionally-designed, simple-to-use operating systems. You can even install Linux with barely any computer knowledge.

The 80s were far more fun. The UK market was flooded with competing systems, from Commodore, Atari, Amstrad, Acorn and Sinclair. PCs had effectively no sound support and the only people I knew with a Mac were the rich Americans next door.

The good news is that T-Mobile USA has finally gotten around to announce its second Android handset, the myTouch 3G; the bad news, though, is that you can’t have it just yet.

Computer-related injuries

While back pain, blurred vision and mouse-related injuries are now well-documented hazards of long-term computer use, the number of acute injuries connected to computers is rising rapidly. According to a study published in the July 2009 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, researchers from the Center for Injury Research and Policy and The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital; and The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus have found a more-than-sevenfold increase in computer-related injuries due to tripping over computer equipment, head injuries due to computer monitor falls and other physical incidents……..
